" If enough
To reach out
How we listen. » Eugene Guillevic
To wait for. Tend towards, connect inside and outside, connect to the other, game of tensions, of attention. Through dance, which is first and foremost an act of listening, Ephia Gburek shares her bodily questions about presence, the accompaniment of the other, modes of non-verbal communication, the relationship between the body and the object, body and environment.
Ephia Gburek, dancer and choreographer, was in artistic residency from January to April 2019 in a neurology department. She practiced her dance with patients coming out of long periods of coma. She came into contact with each patient by coming closer to his temporality, drawing inspiration from his physicality, his gestures and looks.
His choreographic research questions the relationship between the animate and the inanimate. She slows down her body to arrive at the precise place where the movement gradually detaches itself from the stillness. This dilation of time allows his body to move away from the active and voluntary life of humans and to approach states of matter: a melting glacier, a drop of ink dissolving in water , a stone sculpted by the world that stirs around it. Dance becomes for her an act of metamorphosis.

Ephia Gburek
Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary Dance from Columbia University in New York City '98, Ephia immersed herself in the world of improvisation and somatic practices with Nancy Stark Smith, Daniel Lepkoff, and Simone Forti. These experiences introduce him to the transmission of dance through touch and reveal the deep link between bodily perceptions, the imagination, and the quality of movement. Her curiosity for trance led her to study dance in Ghana and Indonesia. She seeks the bewitchment that allows not just to dance but to be danced. She studied butoh intensively in Japan with Min Tanaka (Body Weather) and Kazuo Ohno and became a member of Anzu Furukawa's company based in Berlin. This era marks for her a definitive break with sequenced, gestural or virtuoso dance. From now on she engages in a choreographic writing by states of presence. Dance becomes for her a practice of metamorphosis, requiring another type of technicality: a porosity that connects interior and exterior.
In 2000, she founded Djalma Primordial Science with experimental musician Jeff Gburek; she then focuses her dance on the instability, the vulnerability of the body and its relationship to the environment. The body finds its state of matter in the slowness, in the interiority, and the tiny. Their shows, both sensitive and disturbing, took place in the United States and Europe between 2000 and 2007.
Since 2007, Ephia has lived in France where she collaborates with Cie La Réserve, Cie Scolopendre and Morbus Théâtre. As a teacher she is welcomed in France, Brussels, Tallinn, London, Berlin, and Copenhagen. Since 2015 elle has been organizing "The Anatomy of the Sensitive: at the crossroads of art and medicine", a time for reflection and collective research bringing together professionals from the care and artists. In 2019 she did an artistic residency at the Center Médical de l'Argentière, a post-trauma rehabilitation site. It was strongly marked by encounters with patients coming out of long periods of coma and by the danced interactions, even the smallest, that were able to take place. This experience deeply nourishes her current practice.

Training in the creative process
with Yumi Fujitani
6 p.m. of practice
Fri: 1:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
Sat: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Sun: 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Yumi Fujitani was born in Kobe, Japan in 1962. She comes from the butoh of the 1980s, the "80's" are the golden age during which Butoh develops in Europe gradually leaving its image of "Dance of darkness".Currently, Yumi dances, plays, creates and artistically directs by privileging the relationship with the actors, without limiting herself only to Butô, she widens her creation to other fields, such as the circus, the clown, the mask, the puppet, current music, reading and plastic creation.Searching for one's own energy and feeling, one's reality, one's end, one's state of ecstasy, one's madness and one's birth.Become aware of the atmosphere, become space and materials through improvisation. Develop attentive self-listening and bring out a deep nature which then begins to dance, play, whisper...Yumi poses today a breath and a minimalist, contradictory and whimsical look at Buto art. She now wonders about the Buto(s) of today.Yumi invented a teachingsingular and specific and adapted training. This process starts from his physiological body, from being a child, from being an animal, from there, each participant connects as closely as possible to his inner state of the moment, to his own energy, to his own rhythm, and that, through a simple and concrete training that mobilizes body, breathing, voice, gaze, relationship to others and to space. There, the dancer or the actor frees himself little by little from his physical and internal tensions, from his parasitic thoughts and his ego judgments. It is no longer in imitation or in the conventional, and becomes inhabited by its proposals for movement and play. It is a whole process of letting go, on the axis, the gaze and the space, but also walking, imagination, metamorphosis, endurance work on the supports, on the energy of the state of exhaustion. His teaching seeks to transmit a knowledge of feeling and letting come, a possession of great depth: a possession of its own energy which tends towards its own form.It relies on our child's soul, reveals our animality by expressing emotions in their pure state. This training in the creative process, progressive and accessible to all, makes it possible to glimpse a fundamental transformation in the perception of one's own body and to leave with a fresh look at one's own creative capacities.

Workshop Dance Music TheaterImprovisation and creative processwithKatie Duck
Concerned public:Dancers, musicians, singers, actors, professional performers or confirmed amateurs.
Process and content:
Improvisation workshop for dancers, musicians, performers and movement artists.
Katie Duck has been practicing theatre, dance and music in performance and through improvisation for over 40 years. In her workshops, she explicitly addresses the role that improvisation plays in performing arts, combining her experience in the field of performing arts with her curiosity for neurobiology research, musical experimentation and research on the movement.
Katie is one of the major figures of the contemporary improvisational scene all over the world. She marked several generations of dancers, musicians, performers and choreographers with her unique teaching.
Katie guides participants through physical exercises that involve how visual and auditory perceptions affect the ability to make choices. She directs performers (dancers, musicians, actors, singers) through physical and bodily experiences to challenge their ability to create "a band" while being aware that space evolves with the bodies involved. and their constant reassembly. Musicians and performers may choose to switch roles in these exercises at any time.
Within the workshop is defined a fictitious point of view in the space of the studio which becomes a platform allowing to choose “pause, a flow (flow) or an exit (exit). This space defines how the limits of these three choices can already serve as a framework for a composition, and that misunderstandings, coincidences, real time, interactivity, disorder, emotions, intuition and inspiration are the basic materials of a creative process.
These raw materials are integrated and combined so that each member of the group can choose in the moment. The capacity for choice is presented to the working group as a reality of composition, but also as a means allowing individuals to participate in the spectacle being made or to be a spectator involved in the process.
The objective is to focus the participants around a process of creative composition where time passes at different speeds and where space evolves simultaneously in several dimensions. This required awakened state promotes the presence of individual performances and awareness of the composition.
